There were numerous reasons why the United States Civil rights movement gained new momentum after World War II. Martin Luther King founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957. President Truman desegregated the armed forces in 1948, and Rosa Parks rallied the blacks after refusing to move her seat.
